Church Video Wall Displays are Changing

The use of video in churches and house of worship has come a long way in the last decade. Once looked on as something that didn’t belong in church, Church Video Wall displays are now becoming common place and are understood to help communicate effectively.

If you are looking for simple IMAG or more advanced visual aides to the worship experience, video can offer you amazing solutions for any application. LED Video Wall technology is by far the best option when you look at the entire solution of any technology type.

You will want to look at the following which we address here when comparing LED walls to other display options such as projection:

  • Brightness
  • Resolution
  • Scale-ability
  • Display Format
  • Screen Size Options
  • Cost
  • Maintenance
  • Noise
  • Mounting Requirements

Church Video Wall Brightness

Brightness is critical when presenting video to large audiences such as church auditorium settings. Your video wall needs to be able to be bright enough to adapt to the changing ambient room brightness changes throughout service.

Projection screen brightness is largely dependent on the brightness of the projector, it is recommend that you consult a specialist to determine brightness options for your sanctuary or multi-purpose room etc.

LED video walls are typically capable of brightness that will be suitable for any lighting environment throughout your service including worship and sermon times. SSI indoor LED screens have a standard minimum brightness that is more then sufficient. LED displays have a brightness adjustment that makes it easy to set brightness to the appropriate setting for the space.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space height=”70px”][vimeo]387505401[/vimeo][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Church LED Video Wall Resolution Question[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Video Wall Resolution

What resolution should we get? This is one of the biggest questions when planning for a video wall project at a church. The next biggest question: can we go 4K?

The answer to both for projection is you should determine what resolution you require based on screen distance to closest viewers. In most cases 1080 or HD is good enough. If you are looking for more of a square format for your screens you can use XGA resolution and save money.

In the case of LED video walls you still need to answer the question of distance to viewer but most often the resolution will be more then adequate and most all of our LED screens are capable of HD+ quality. Pixel Pitch is a whole different conversation and quite important but when you call for a video wall consultation be prepared to answer the distance to viewers question.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Church Video Wall Cost

For new projects or upgrades to your existing video walls at your church its important to consider Size, Brightness, Resolutions and Cost vs Reach.

Projection cost depends on overall size of the screen and the brightness required. Resolution options vary and will impact cost significantly. One main benefit of projection for use with church video walls is the ability have zoom functionality and decrease or increase screen size. You will need to factor in the projector, mounts and screen costs.

LED video wall cost is based on two factors, display size and pixel pitch. Brightness shouldn’t be a concern with LED as the difference between it and projection is significant. Determining display size should be easy enough, pixel pitch will be determined by distance for screen to audience and where video wall is placed.

Display Format Flexibility

Every display type has both it strengths and weaknesses, it just the nature of technology. Although in church facilities there seems to be 3 prevalent display technologies incorporated throughout the campus.

  1. LED/LCD Flat Panel Displays ~ Standard Sizes, some customization
  2. Projection Technologies ~ Flexible Zoom and Masking options, limited to throw distance, foreground objects and ambient brightness based o pixel usage
  3. LED Video Walls ~ Limited by panel size constrictions only (typically 19″x19″, 25″x25″, etc. Want to learn more about LED Video Wall Assembly

Church Video Wall Maintenance

Maintenance is a critical factor to consider for any technology that you deploy in your church, factors to consider include spare parts and lifespan based on desired performance over time.

Projection video wall displays have a lifespan of 4000~20,000 hours depending on conventional or laser light source technology inside. Conventional bulbs dim over time and half life should be considered. Laser light engines last 5 times as long, cost savings far outweigh investment.

Projector maintenance includes filter cleaning and bulb replacement.

LED Video Walls lifespan is on average 100,000 hours or more. Even when compared to laser light source projector LED video walls make the best financial sense as they last a minimum of 5x as long as projection.

Maintenance for LED is minimal to none over time. Visual Display Noise

Technology creates heat, heat needs to be dispelled in order for the tech to operate properly. Projectors for instance have incredibly loud cooling fans as the bulbs are operating in the 250~400 degree range. To keep those bulbs cool and prevent shutdown the internal fans must be moving air constantly and at high volume.

LED Video Walls are not heat free but compared along side projection technologies they are silent and cooling fans are hard to hear if you try. Most often the projector must be out in the auditorium over the congregations heads, this can make for a very difficult to focus and concentrate on the message.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Mounting Requirements for Video Walls

When it comes to mounting requirements for different video wall technologies vary widely. Just in terms of ease of install and weight we are addressing them all below. Projectors being the lightest.

Projection video wall for church worship centers are the lightest, although a two part system (projector and screen). Projectors most often used in churches are 50lbs or so typically, they are mounted from a pole and usually front projection.

LED video walls can be used for church applications throughout the campus including worship centers, entry foyers, youth rooms, hospitality and more. Mounting options are typically 1 of 3 ways. Suspended or flown, wall mounted or floor standing. We discuss the 3 options in detail at this blog post regarding LED video wall installation

LED Flat Panel Wall displays are out of style mostly in today’s modern church and most every application but still possible. These are most always going to be wall mounted but occasionally floor standing.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]LED Video Wall Mounting[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Video Walls for House of Worship Displays[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
